Injuries to Prisoners While in Prison
Injuries to People While in Custody

If you or a family member have been SEVERALLY injured or killed while in the custody or under the supervision of a governmental agency the government may be liable and the injured person may be entitled to compensation. Examples of people who are in the custody or under the supervision of the government include:

Inmates in state prisons
Prisoners in city or county jails
Arrestees in police cars or police stations
Patients in state hospitals

Youths in state reform schools or detention centers

Children in foster care or state homes

Children living with known abusive parents
Students in public schools

Injuries that may occur to a person in a governmental facility for which there may be governmental liability include those resulting from excessive force by prison staff, denial of care, refusals to assist, rape, assault, molestation, harm to oneself, suicide, murder, kidnapping, or child abuse. Any such injuries may be suffered at the hands of state or city employees or of other inmates, other patients, other students, caregivers, or outside parties who entered the facility.

If you have been proven innocent after spending time in prison you may be entitled to money from the state if improper activity, shoddy police work or false claims assisted the state to obtain your conviction.
